Red shoes are good.

They have come a long way since Dorothy rocked them, and whether they evoke the Wizard of Oz or the Pope, red shoes are a potent form of footwear.
Red shoes have a particularly complicated relationship with womanhood and beauty. Summer Brennan, author of High Heel—an examination of footwear, femininity, and transformation—says, "Red has all sorts of taboo associations with women that we may not always be aware of."

This week we go red and ignore the taboo. Color can expand your wardrobe and bring a point of view - to do with moderation like everything else. Adding color creates variety in your closet and more outfit options.

The shoes are from Proenza Schouler. I bought them at McCullen, a black-owned concept shop in Auckland, California, with an incredible brand selection, recognized by Vogue as one of the top boutiques in the country.

Look #1 is very simple; the shoes are the exclamation point. The Sid jeans from Tibi no longer need an introduction; I am admittedly overwearing them. The top is a sheer gauze t-shirt from Tibi (on sale). This dusty lavender and red were meant for each other. It works. It is such a chill look you can bring out without compromising comfort. Let's party with look #2; it is 100% inspired by Sherri McCullen, founder & CEO of McCullen. The Sid jeans (again) are in a different wash, and the top is from Róhe, sold out on McCullen but available on Rohe. Accessories - earrings and sunglasses are from Bottega Veneta. The last look highlights my latest sale find - the single-breasted suit jacket in linen from Acne; it is wired throughout the hem, making it playful and unique. Acne does the best suit jackets, don't look anywhere else. The cut and quality are impeccable. Acne jackets fit big to oversize; I usually size down by 2 to 3 sizes. For a rectangle/athletic body type, the softer fabric will make it more flattering worn with a belt. Also, I always get them on sale. The jeans are from Balenciaga. The wash is rock-solid good; it's my favorite pair of jeans. Quite an investment, but they are the ones I will run with if evacuated in the middle of the night because of an earthquake. I bought the t-shirt in Marfa, and my cowboy friend brings irony to this outfit.

With love from Fannie
